The New Moon occurs on 20th December, 2025 at 01:41 am GMT, when the Sun and Moon conjoin at 28°24' Sagittarius.

Sagittarius themes

You can't help but LOVE Sagittarians. The sizable grins, the adventurous mind, the ability to just know without knowing how ... and yes, that savage spoken truth. Everything with Sag is expansive, joyful, curious and meaningful.

💡 Sagittarius is the archetype of the seeker, philosopher, and adventurer. Psychologically, it represents our innate drive to expand beyond the known, to explore horizons both literal and metaphorical. This sign thrives on meaning; weaving experiences into narratives that give life coherence and purpose.

🌟 At its core, Sagittarius embodies faith in possibility, the courage to risk the familiar for the promise of growth, and the conviction that truth is discovered through exploration. Under this New Moon, the psyche is primed for renewal through belief systems, encouraging us to reframe limiting stories and embrace perspectives that widen our world.

♾️ You will find many a Sag mind as a student or teacher (often both). They live to know, they love to tell others and they can expand their consciousness onto the infinite.

🎁 Gifts are a heightened intuitive function, an ability to boldly state the truth and a deep understanding of natural laws.

As per all New Moons, this is a beginning/seeding event.

The shadow side of Sag

Yet every archetype carries its shadow. For Sagittarius, the pursuit of freedom can morph into restlessness, escapism, or dogmatism. The shadow manifests as overconfidence in one’s worldview, dismissing nuance in favour of sweeping generalizations.

At times, the Sagittarian fire burns so brightly that it blinds itself to consequences, chasing adventure without grounding. This New Moon invites us to confront these tendencies: Where might we be clinging to certainty instead of curiosity? Where do we confuse expansion with avoidance? By acknowledging the shadow, we reclaim Sagittarius’ gift of wisdom - truth that is lived, not preached.

Ruler Jupiter at (22°) Cancer (RX)

What is getting expanded? Family time, homelife, bonding moments, bloodlines, lineage and your basement. Ha, that's right, the deepest, darkest and most private part of you... created as a baby, evolved as a child and now the most locked-down part of you as an adult.

You might find yourself more nostalgic. You could be prioritising family time. Or you are working on that basement, sifting old goo and replacing it with better things, thoughts and experiences.

New Moon in Sag aspects to other planets

This flavourful stellium sets the scene for this New Moon with relationships and values.

Conjunct Venus at (24°) Sag, Juno at (26°) Sag and Mars at (3°) Capricorn

We have Venus and Juno (committed partner), suggesting a quest for a meaningful commitment, and Mars that solidifies that choice with responsible, long-term focused Capricorn. Primarily this is a partnership between two people, although it can also be a marriage, business alliance or commitment to a work-based/academic project (given Sag's link to teaching, learning, study and mind expansion).

Conjunct the Galactic Centre at (27°) Sag

The Galactic Centre is said to be a black hole in space, representing a powerful point of magnetism (bam on my Sun and Neptune!), best understood by expert Phillip Sedgewick.

Essentially, his take on deleting old memories, defragging and consciousness expansion are worthy of a read.

Square Neptune at (29°), now direct and Saturn (25°)

Finally Neptune is stationary direct at 29, holding us in a state of 'just woken up from a ten- year coma'. Neptune tends to blind us to reality, and while this can be a very nice feeling, the crash when it happens can be most jarring, considering adjacent Saturn - lord of reality, boundaries and restriction.

Illusions and cover ups are making way for what truly is. Don't despair, the truth may set you free. In time you will come to find the meaning you're looking for, look back and realise this moment is a 'disguised' blessing.

What else is happening - other aspects

Ruler Jupiter at Cancer (22°) square to Chiron at (22°) Aries

If Cancer is the deepest self and private life, and Chiron is the long-standing, unhealable wound in Aries (courage, independence, desire, initiative and identity), then what will we expect with this aspect?

One idea is a breaking away from what we have become over-dependant and needy of. Another is that it is pulled away from us (or was, long ago) and that pain hasn't budged an inch.

Jupiter wants to believe it meant something. Surely it added 'character' or taught us survival. Can that work? Remember that deepest self... it's psychological and responds to mental shifts. You can change who you are, if you know who you are - your journey and your destination. Jupiter has the sight of the fired arrow. It has the luck and the joy that knowledge can bring. Aries's wounds desire freedom to heal. That's Jupiter's playground.

Questions for reflection

  • What leap of faith am I ready to take?

  • Which beliefs expand me, and which confine me?

  • How can I embody curiosity rather than certainty?

Rituals to connect with the New Moon in Sag

  • Vision Mapping Ritual

Create a symbolic “map” of your next adventure. This could be a literal drawing of places you want to explore, or a metaphorical map of personal growth goals. Place it somewhere visible to remind yourself of the journey you’re committing to.

  • Belief Reframing Fire Ceremony

Write down limiting beliefs or outdated stories on slips of paper. Safely burn them in a candle flame or fireproof bowl, while affirming new truths that expand your perspective. Fire is Sagittarius’ element, making this ritual especially potent.

  • Galactic Center Meditation

Since this New Moon aligns closely with the Galactic Centre, spend time in meditation visualizing yourself connected to a vast cosmic source of wisdom. Ask for guidance on aligning your personal truth with universal truth.

  • Philosophical Journaling

Reflect on the questions above. Write freely, allowing insights to surface without censoring.

  • Adventure Commitment Ritual

Choose one tangible adventure—big or small—that symbolizes expansion. It could be booking a trip, signing up for a class, or committing to a new practice. Mark the commitment with a symbolic gesture, like lighting a candle or tying a ribbon around your wrist.
